You can help change the way sunbeds are regulated by emailing your local Member of Parliament.

  1. Find your local MP on Parliament’s website by entering your postcode or location. It will provide you with their contact details.

  2. Write your email. We have suggested some text below as a starting point, but the more you can personalise the email with your experiences, the better. You must include your full name and address as MPs can only respond to people in their constituency.

Dear [MP’s name],

I am writing to express my deep concern over the rising numbers of the alarming rise in use of sunbeds as brought to my attention through the campaign from Skin Cancer UK.

Skin Cancer UK is urging the Government to revise outdated Sunbed Regulation Act 2010.

In the UK, 46 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed daily and using a sunbed before age 35 increases skin cancer risk by nearly 60%. Furthermore, melanoma skin cancer rates are projected to increase by 9% by 2025.

As your constituent, I would be very grateful for your support in calling on the Government to propose mandatory warning signs in all tanning facilities, akin to those on tobacco packaging, to highlight the dangers of sunbed use.

Calls for preventative measures against this preventable disease are all too often ignored, Skin Cancer UK are keen for your public support for their campaign on social media too. You can visit their website to learn more: themelanomalaw.com. If you would like to discuss any of these issues further, you can contact Skin Cancer UK on hello@skincanceruk.co.uk.

Thank you for your help; I look forward to receiving your response.

Yours sincerely,
